\nThe National Director for Pontifical Missionary
\nSocieties (PMS) of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), Fr. Vincent
\nMwakhwawa has called on the local clergy to embrace the spirit of self-reliance
\nas one way of animating the people of God on Missionary Cooperation.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr. Mwakhwawa was speaking at a meeting for the
\nAssociation of Diocesan Catholic Clergy of Malawi (ADCCOM) at Kachebere Major
\nSeminary in Mchinji where over 200 local priests from all the eight dioceses in
\nMalawi met.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said as the Clergy, they need to raise
\nmissionary consciousness in the people of God in Malawi hence need to make good
\nsteps towards self-reliance.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cHowever, we still have a lot of assignments to
\ndo. There is need for us as clergy to work hard in teaching our people. Our
\npeople as much as they are praying hard and contributing money for our
\nsustenance, still they need to grow in their understanding of their Christians
\nduty or responsibility,\u201d observed Fr. Mwakhwawa.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nAccording to Fr. Mwakhwawa, a Christian is called
\nto follow and live like Christ \u2013 called to be saved but also to work for the
\nsalvation of others.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said the role of priests is to give missionary
\nto people of God hence the efforts of self-reliance will be effective if they
\nwork hard in teaching the Christians.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cYou and me have to work hard to help our people
\nunderstand that whatever we offer: prayers, services and money are for the
\nbuilding of Kingdom of God here in Malawi and other countries (the whole
\nworld). Let us not get tired of teaching and giving missionary formation to our
\npeople,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said PMS is there as a tool for the Church to
\nhelp you and people of God to grow in the missionary consciousness: PMS is a
\nformation tool: Giving information for the formation and transformation of the
\npeople of God into true missionaries who are ready to pray for missionary work,
\ngive their services to the Church and contribute money for the mission work.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe meeting of Diocesan Catholic Clergy is held
\nonce in every two years. In attendance were also Archbishops Thomas Msusa, Tarcisious
\nZiyaye, Bishops Montfort Stima, Tambala and Kanyama.<\/div>\n
