Rt. Rev. Joseph Ndembu Mbatia, Bishop of Nyahururu Diocese in
\nKenya has commended the Good Shepherd, a Journal of Pastoral Theology launched
\non Friday 8th April by the Department of Pastoral Theology of the
\nCatholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).<\/p><\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop Mbatia who with his counterpart, Rt. Rev. Rodrigo Mej\u00eda
\nSaldarriaga, SJ, Bishop Emeritus of Vicariate Apostolic of Soddo led the
\nlaunching ceremony said that the Journal will be a very important tool in the
\nevangelization strategy, because it will contain major topics of great concern
\nwhich has been researched, analyzed and found to be helpful in the caring of
\nsouls, hence bringing a spiritual change, which is the main object of pastoral
\nministry.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a>Speaking at the colorful event which was held at CUEA\u2019s main
\ncampus in Langata Nairobi, Mbatia explained that the main aim of evangelization
\nis to convert, to transform people lives for the Kingdom of God; the Kingdom of
\njustice, love and peace. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe pastoral Ministry which in other words is regarded as the Ministry
\nof Salvation has no other aim than the care and cure for souls. This does not
\nexclude individual and collective advancement, in the light of the Gospel, of
\nthe human person,\u201d he said adding that the introduction of the Small Christian
\nCommunities in the AMECEA Region was aimed at this important role as captured
\nin the book Small Christian Communities
\nby Joseph G. Healey and Jeanne Hinton<\/i>, which says that \u201cThe Church to be at
\nthe grassroots, to respond to various challenges that the human person
\nencounter in life, plant and deepen the Christian faith.\u201d <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop Mbatia however, noted that in the present times AMECEA Region
\nfaces quite a number of challenges, which include political instabilities in
\nsome countries which in some cases have resulted to massive loss of innocent
\nlives. \u201cThose who suffer most are the women and children. Violent acts like
\nsexual abuses to women and children are very rampant in the war torn areas in
\nthe AMECEA Region.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOther things the Bishop mentioned include poverty regardless of the fact
\nthat the region is endowed with quite a number of natural resources, diseases
\nsuch as HIV\/AIDS, tribalism whereby attaining the highest position in
\nleadership as a tribe is key to peace; unequal Distribution of resources and negative
\ncultural\/traditions practices such as cattle rustling.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said these challenges are affecting the Church in a big way and
\nnot only worries the Pastoral Theologians but has also given sleepless nights
\nto systematic Theologians. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said that understanding the faith is key to live true to the
\nGospel teaching because Islamic Religion which does not tolerate the presence
\nof any other religion is slowly penetrating to the interior of the Region and
\nslowly by slowly gaining followers. \u201cWhen the Catholic Christians are not fully
\ninformed on the truth of their faith, they fall victim of other religious
\nfaiths,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
