The JRPS is a<br \/>\njoint venture between three companies, including St. Augustine University of Tanzania<br \/>\n(SAUT), the German energy supply systems firm, Inensus GmbH and the Austrian<br \/>\nrenewable energy project developer, TerraProjects.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nJUMEME aims at implementing and operating Solar-Hybrid Mini-Grids<br \/>\nin remote settlements in<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-jtzZ-FTuKyA\/VxD511-kFNI\/AAAAAAAAFuo\/VIG6YyCaliY6o0N1NmZTU5hypodwWF50gCLcB\/s1600\/group%2BJUMEME.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"213\" src=\"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/groupJUMEME.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>the country and is being co-funded by the EU under the<br \/>\nEuropean Commission ACP-EU Energy Facility with a commitment of 17.8bn\/-<br \/>\nTanzanian shillings (about 9 M USD).<\/p>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nSpeaking at the launching event the Vice Chancellor of SAUT, Rev.<br \/>\nDr. Thadeus Mkamwa who is among the Directors of JUMEME, said that the goal is<br \/>\nto set up 300 systems and serve up to one million people in rural areas across<br \/>\nTanzania by 2022, making Jumeme the largest mini-grid operator in the country.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nHe explained that the power system was set up in Bwisya, the<br \/>\nlargest village on Ukara Island, where initially 250 customers will be<br \/>\nconnected to a hybrid power station consisting of a 60 kilowatt peak (kWp)<br \/>\nsolar PV system, a 33 kVA diesel genset, and a 240 kilowatt hours (kWh) battery<br \/>\nbank.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThe system will also be extended in the second half of this year<br \/>\nto connect the other villages on the island with a total of 2,000 customers.<br \/>\nFor the implementation of the pilot project in Bwisya, Jumeme received<br \/>\nadditional co-financing from the Energy and Environment Partnership Program<br \/>\nwith Southern and East Africa, Phase II.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThe mini-grid in Bwisya is the first of 30 systems to be installed<br \/>\nby Jumeme over the next two years, supplying reliable electricity to around<br \/>\n100,000 people.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nCommenting on the inauguration, the District Commissioner for<br \/>\nUkerewe, Mr. Joseph Mkirikiti, said that the pilot project on Ukara Island was<br \/>\na first step towards a sustainable power supply for many of the remote<br \/>\ncommunities in Tanzania that are still without access to electricity.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\nThe EU Delegation Head of Natural Resources, Mr. Gianluca Azzoni,<br \/>\nnoted that the project was<\/div>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cBy 2018, the EU funds in this project will see several mini-grids<br \/>\ninstalled providing electricity to 11,000 households, 2,600 agricultural<br \/>\nenterprises and businesses, and more than 80 public infrastructures (schools,<br \/>\nclinics, religious buildings),\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;
