\nThe department of Pastoral Theology in the Faculty of Theology at
\nthe Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) on Friday 8th April
\nlaunched its first ever journal of Pastoral Theology called the Good Shepherd
\nin a colorful ceremony that was led by the first head of Pastoral Theology at
\nthe institution Rt. Rev. Rodrigo Mej\u00eda Saldarriaga, SJ, Bishop Emeritus of Vicariate
\nApostolic of Soddo, Ethiopia and Rt. Rev. Joseph Ndembu Mbatia, Bishop of
\nNyahururu Diocese in Kenya.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn his homily during the Eucharistic celebrations that preceded
\nthe launching ceremony, Bishop Mej\u00eda revealed that 35 year ago he was the
\nyoungest staff member of CUEA, then known as Catholic High Institution of Eastern
\nAfrica (CHIEA) and he was the head of Pastoral Theology, which at the time had
\nonly five students, among them Rev. Fr. Joseph Kato who later became head of
\nPastoral Department at AMECEA Secretariat.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cI have seen CUEA growing but never had a chance to preside over
\nthe Mass, this is therefore a great opportunity for me and a reason for great
\njoy,\u201d he said on a light note.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nRev. Dr. Nicholaus Segeja, the current head of Pastoral Theology
\nat the University said that the idea of publishing a journal was conceived long
\ntime ago and he was glad that it has become a reality. While extending his
\ngratitude to all who, through their participation, in one way or the other have
\ncontributed to the success of the publication, he said adding that it took many
\nhands for support and working together to realize the dream.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cThe mandate of the department of Pastoral Theology is to do
\nresearch and publication, as well<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

as teach and serve in the community,\u201d Fr.
\nSegeja said adding that because of its nature, the department also has a duty
\nof studying priorities in pastoral challenges in the church and society and
\nproposing formal strategy to respond to them at different levels.<\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nHe explained that the department also need to collaborate in
\nevaluating and proposing pastoral programs of common interest specifically in
\nthe local churches, in the parishes, pastoral institutes and centers,
\nseminaries and formation centers. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cBecause of its nature and mandate which is in line with the
\ncurrent CUEA Strategic Development Plan, and considering the needs of pastoral
\nand theological research due to contemporary challenges that call for pastoral
\ncollaborations and networking in AMECEA Region and beyond, the department saw
\nthat the launching of the good shepherd journal suffices as a necessity,\u201d he
\nsaid.<\/div>\n

\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\nAmong the topics covered in this first Volume, Issue number one of
\nthe Good Shepherd Journal include Socio-Pastoral
\nAnalysis and Social Sciences Research Methodologies: Areas of Convergence and
\nDivergence<\/i> authored by Rev. Dr. Segeja; From
\nPastoral to Practical Theology<\/i> authored by Msgr. Rodrigo Mej\u00eda Saldarriaga,
\nSJ; Doing Quality Pastoral Theology
\nResearch in African Context<\/i> authored by Rev. Prof. Peter Ignatius Gichure; Pastoral Methodological Considerations:
\nGuidelines for Writing Research works<\/i>, authored by Rev. Jim Kanakulia and
\nRev. Dr. Segeja.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nOther topics covered include Applying
\nPersonality Virtue Ethics to Pastoral Theology <\/i>authored by Rev. Dr.
\nEmmanuel Wabanhu and finally Evangelii
\nGuadium and the Church as family of God<\/i>, authored by Rev. Dr. Jordan
\nNyenyembe.<\/div>\n

\nFr. Segeja said that the successful publication and the launch of
\nthe Good Shepherd Journal is an indication of more publications in the pipeline
\nthat the department is working on. He said that plans are underway to publish
\nmore research works done by the institution which aim at providing the much
\nneeded information to the Church and community in General.<\/div>\n

\nPress.<\/div>\n
