In a significant step toward communal renewal, the Pastoral Department of the Vicariate of Harar organized a two-day capacity-building workshop centered on the theme \u201cFor a Synodal Church,” from February 12 to 13, 2026, at St. Augustine Parish in Dire Dawa.<\/p>\n

The training brought together priests and religious sisters serving across the Vicariate to deepen their understanding of synodality.<\/p>\n

The program commenced with the Celebration of the Holy Eucharist and a blessing by His Excellency Abune Angelo, Bishop of the Vicariate of Harar.<\/p>\n

In his opening remarks, the Bishop emphasized that the primary goal of the training was to chart a practical path for the local church.<\/p>\n

“The main objective of this training is to determine how we must work together so that our Church truly becomes Synodal,” Bishop Angelo stated.<\/p>\n

He further urged participants to move beyond theoretical discussions, noting that the current era demands a transition to concrete action, fueled by spiritual motivation, from all members of the clergy and laity.\"\"<\/p>\n

The sessions were led by Rev. Father Misrak Tiyu (Ph. D), who provided a comprehensive explanation of the essence of synodality. A key focus of his presentation was the “Final Document” of the Synod, which outlines the Church\u2019s global vision for communion, participation, and mission.<\/p>\n

Father Misrak detailed the fundamental identity of a Synodal Church, the practical steps required to foster a collaborative environment, and the unique responsibility of every baptized Christian in the life of the Church.<\/p>\n

Participants engaged in group discussions, tailoring the synodal concepts to the specific cultural and pastoral context of Harar. They expressed a renewed readiness to implement these values within their respective ministries.<\/p>\n

As the workshop concluded, Rev. Father Amanuel Bassa, the Pastoral Coordinator of the Vicariate, extended his gratitude to the facilitators and organizers. He reminded the attendees that the journey toward a Synodal Church begins with personal transformation.<\/p>\n

“Change starts with the self,” Father Amanuel remarked. “It requires the cooperation of everyone, characterized by sincerity, determination, and a spirit of self-giving service.”<\/p>\n
