{"id":22965,"date":"2025-08-22T16:31:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T16:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=22965"},"modified":"2025-08-22T16:31:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T16:31:09","slug":"amecea-ameceas-communication-policy-a-blueprint-for-member-conferences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2025\/08\/22\/amecea-ameceas-communication-policy-a-blueprint-for-member-conferences\/","title":{"rendered":"AMECEA: AMECEA\u2019s Communication Policy, a Blueprint for Member Conferences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Secretary General of the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), during the launch of <strong>AMECEA\u2019s Communication Policy, <\/strong>expressed <strong>that the document can be used as a guide by other conferences in the region <\/strong>when developing or updating their communication policies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Addressing both online and onsite participants on Monday, August 18, during the launch at the Consolata Shrine in Nairobi, Kenya, Fr. Anthony Makunde said that \u201cThe Social Communications Policy is not simply an internal document of the Secretariat. It is intended to serve as a reference point for member conferences and dioceses as they formulate or update their own national and diocesan communication policies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the AMECEA Secretary General, the policy marks \u201ca prophetic response to the demands of our time\u201d and will provide guidelines for coherent and ethical communication in line with Catholic teaching.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He referenced Pope Paul VI\u2019s Apostolic Exhortation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/paul-vi\/en\/apost_exhortations\/documents\/hf_p-vi_exh_19751208_evangelii-nuntiandi.html\"><em>Evangelii Nuntiandi<\/em><\/a><em>,<\/em> which highlighted that modern media are not just tools of information but instruments of evangelization and catechesis. With this, he stated, \u201cAt the heart of the launch lies a conviction that <strong>communication is the lifeblood of the Church\u2019s mission<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Fr. Makunde underscored that the Social Communications Policy is designed to: \u201cPromote professionalism and coherence in Church communication at all levels, safeguard the integrity and truth of the Church\u2019s message, and Provide ethical guidance on the use of digital and social media.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He added, \u201cA policy gives direction, prevents fragmentation, and ensures that our communication reflects Gospel values of truth, justice, love, and respect for human dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In tandem with the Communication policy, AMECEA also unveiled its <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/search?q=amecea%20digital%20app&amp;c=apps\"><strong>Digital Radio App<\/strong><\/a>, an innovation that integrates Catholic media outlets across the region into one digital platform. The app currently connects <strong>66 radio stations<\/strong> and is set to incorporate <strong>six television stations<\/strong> owned by different member conferences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis means Catholic content is now just a tap away, on phones, tablets, or computers,\u201d Fr. Makunde noted and continued, \u201cInstead of searching far and wide, the faithful can now access Church media in one place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Founded in 1961, AMECEA brings together the Catholic Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa and encompasses 128 dioceses in eight Episcopal Conferences and two Military Ordinariates, representing over 80 million Catholics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The association has consistently championed a vision of the Church as a <em>\u201cfamily of God\u201d<\/em>, one that listens, communicates, and walks with its people.
