A well-wisher from the Archdiocese of Lilongwe under St. Patrick\u2019s Parish has donated assorted items to needy and deserving students at the Catholic University of Malawi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking during the handover ceremony of the items last Saturday, the well-wisher, Mr. Noel Mveriwa, said the donation follows sad reports of needy students in higher education who struggle to have basic needs while on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t have much, but the little that I have may bring a change to two or three people. That is why I thought of donating to our church to assist students who struggle to get the things I have brought,\u201d said Mveriwa.<\/span><\/p>\n

The university chaplain, Rev. Fr. Kondwani Mwenegamba has commended the gesture, saying it will go a long way in reaching out to the many needy students that the university has.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Due to the fact that this is a private university, people think that we only enroll students coming from rich families but that is not the case: we have students who are coming from very poor families trying to access the quality education that the university is offering,\u201d said Fr. Mwenegamba.<\/span><\/p>\n

He added that the University has hundreds of needy students especially those on off-campus, who struggle to get basic needs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fr. Mwenegamba then further called on other well-wishers to come forth to assist the needy students facing hiccups in accessing education at the university.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThrough people like Noel Mveriwa, we do manage to get support to assist very few students against a huge number who come to the office of the chaplain looking for help, hence my appeal to other well-wishers to follow suit,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The donated items include food items such as sugar, cooking oil, soya pieces, and scholastic materials. <\/span><\/p>\n

Established in 2004, the Catholic University of Malawi has over six thousand students in seven faculties, namely: commerce, education, law, nursing and midwifery, science, social sciences, and theology.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
