{"id":18616,"date":"2023-11-17T19:04:49","date_gmt":"2023-11-17T19:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=18616"},"modified":"2023-11-17T19:04:49","modified_gmt":"2023-11-17T19:04:49","slug":"secam-upcoming-cepacs-golden-jubilee-an-opportunity-for-stock-taking-and-enhancing-synodality-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2023\/11\/17\/secam-upcoming-cepacs-golden-jubilee-an-opportunity-for-stock-taking-and-enhancing-synodality-in-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"SECAM: Upcoming CEPACS\u2019 Golden Jubilee, An Opportunity for Stock-taking and Enhancing Synodality in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The upcoming Golden Jubilee celebration for the Pan African Episcopal Committee for Social Communications (CEPACS) slated for November 18-21, in Lagos, Nigeria, aims to strengthen synodality in Africa as participants focus on assessing and reviewing the committee\u2019s task in the continent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Z4s_UU5VNPU\">video<\/a> clip shared with <em>AMECEA Online<\/em> Thursday, November 9, the President of CEPACS Bishop Emmanuel Adetoyese Badejo notes that since Synod on Synodality calls the Church to a new way of existence that carries everybody along and leaves nobody behind, \u201call segments of the Church be allowed to have a voice to have an opinion, and to feel a sense of belonging to a Church that cares about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The CEPACS assembly therefore the Bishop said, is a time to strengthen, \u201cCollaboration with all segments of people who have the same aim and objectives as the Church to unify humanity and cause the advancement of human beings, especially media professionals.\u201d That means involving the children, the young people, the women the men, those considered not educated in the Western ways, and even the traditional region worshipers together with people of other religions and Churches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He expounded further that the Golden Jubilee being celebrated when the Pope is emphasizing the aspect of walking together, \u201cgives the opportunity for stock-taking what CEPACS has done so far, what it has achieved, where it is going, what can be changed, and what can be made better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The committee of CEPACS was established in Ibadan, Nigeria by the Bishops of Africa in 1973, to help and represent the continent on matters that concern the media and engagement with the communication world. In its statutes, \u201cThe Church in Africa is convinced that if Evangelization is at the center of the mission of the Church, then Communication is the heart of Evangelization. (Thus) The Church is aware that in addition to personal contact evangelism and other traditional means of carrying the message, it must also employ the modern means of social communication made available to it by modern technology, and at the same time, the Church must remain alive and dynamic to respond effectively to its divine mission of evangelization and communication.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_18581\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18581\" style=\"width: 456px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-18581\" src=\"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Bishop-Badejo.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"257\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Bishop-Badejo.jpeg 1500w, https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Bishop-Badejo-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Bishop-Badejo-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Bishop-Badejo-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-18581\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em><strong>Bishop Badejo of Nigeria\u2019s Oyo Diocese,<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Bishop Badejo of Nigeria\u2019s Oyo Diocese, CEPACS was set up in 1973 CEPACS was established in 1973 as an initiative of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) as a response to the Vatican\u2019s document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/pontifical_councils\/pccs\/documents\/rc_pc_pccs_doc_23051971_communio_en.html\"><em>Communio et Progressio<\/em><\/a> (the pastoral instruction on the means of social communication) that was released at the direction of the Second Vatican Council.
