{"id":14501,"date":"2022-06-24T18:20:55","date_gmt":"2022-06-24T18:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=14501"},"modified":"2022-06-24T18:21:37","modified_gmt":"2022-06-24T18:21:37","slug":"kenya-on-world-refugee-day-prelate-encourages-creating-safe-space-for-everyone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2022\/06\/24\/kenya-on-world-refugee-day-prelate-encourages-creating-safe-space-for-everyone\/","title":{"rendered":"KENYA: On World Refugee Day, Prelate Encourages Creating Safe Space for Everyone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the worldwide community marks World Refugee Day (WRD) in remembrance of those forced to flee from their countries or homes because of various challenges, Catholic Bishop has encouraged creating a safe space for these people to feel welcome and not rejected.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking at Jesuit Refugee service <a href=\"https:\/\/jrs.net\/en\/campaign\/world-refugee-day\/?gclid=CjwKCAjwwdWVBhA4EiwAjcYJEN0e-wuINb5ZUTwDITyrKxqQnBouHVCyij0ZNV08un3ZIat1PKjplxoCE8AQAvD_BwE\">(JRS)<\/a> in Nairobi, Kenya on Monday, June 20, Bishop Virgilio Pante the chairman of Commission for Refugees, Migrants &amp; Seafarers at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB)\u00a0acknowledges that the \u201cworld belongs to everyone and we are to be compassionate to all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his homily during the Eucharistic celebration on the annual event, the Prelate focused on the beatitudes recounted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount reminding the congregants that the judgement on the last day will be on \u201chow we treated our brothers and sisters since the image of God himself is in the people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThere are challenges everywhere, bombs, killings, grabbing people\u2019s property, selfishness, several tragedies and other destructions leading to displacement and people fleeing their homes,\u201d the Local Ordinary of Kenya\u2019s Maralal Diocese disclosed\u00a0 and continued, \u201cBlessed are the poor in spirit, when they are not involved in such acts,\u00a0for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He highlighted that all the destructions of humanity and environment does not bring and development or progress but instead a sign of \u201cpride.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Stressing on the virtue of peace, the Bishop who has worked with refugees for over two decades underscored that it is a mission that should be continuous and not be ended, stressing that happy the peacemakers, they will be called children of God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cPeace and reconciliation must be the priority work of the Church for it is a ministry God entrusted us to reconcile with God and ourselves,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The annual WRD, that was designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe and build empathy and understanding for their plight as the world recognizes their resilience in rebuilding their lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on the same day on the theme for the 2022 WRD; \u201cWhoever. Wherever.
