{"id":13650,"date":"2022-02-04T19:05:27","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T19:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=13650"},"modified":"2022-02-04T19:05:27","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T19:05:27","slug":"amecea-brainstorms-on-religious-ideological-extremism-and-way-forward","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2022\/02\/04\/amecea-brainstorms-on-religious-ideological-extremism-and-way-forward\/","title":{"rendered":"AMECEA: Brainstorms on Religious Ideological Extremism and Way forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During a two-day workshop discussing on religious ideological extremism and radicalization in the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) region, participants proposes various ways to stem the phenomenon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In their discussion, participants who were mainly prelates and clergy from Kenya, Malawi and Tanzania suggested, among others, the need to \u201cpromote Catholic teachings on ecumenism and interreligious dialogue especially on religious fundamentalism and religious ideological extremism,\u201d and come up with \u201cStrategies on community engagement to develop good relationships with significant actors that will foster attentive listening to common concerns for concrete community interventions by stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Additionally, they suggested that \u201cConferences should engage education professionals and legal practitioners to ensure that values are upheld in all learning institutions within the region,\u201d and also to \u201creawaken commitment in the Catholic education sector, so as to address the emerging issues and promote Catholic values in the learning institutions especially in the administration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the workshop that was organized by AMECEA Social Communications Department, a team from Shalom-Center for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation (SCCRR), an organization whose mission is to \u201cWork for a society free of physical violence and unjust social structures in Africa, while building peaceful and reconciled communities,\u201d expressed their commitment in conflict transformation and peace building in the AMECEA region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Fr.
