\nEpiscopal Conference (TEC) mourns the death of the Bishop Gervas Nkalanga, OSB,
\nBishop Emeritus of Bukoba Diocese that happened on 18 December 2015.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop
\nKalanga was laid to rest on 29 December 2015 at Hanga Abbey in Songea. He is
\nremembered by the Church of East Africa to participate and establish the
\nFederation of Catholic Bishops Conferences of Africa and Middle East. He
\nparticipated in the celebration of the great Council of Vatican II<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop
\nNkalanga joined the Benedictine Congregation after becoming an Emeritus Bishop and
\nwent through all the steps of religious formation as required.  Upon completion his formation he obtained a
\nname Frt Placidus, OSB.  <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe
\nwas ordained a Priest in July, 1950 and on 21 May 1961 was ordained Bishop by
\nPope John XXIII and made Auxiliary of the first African Cardinal H.E. Laurent Rugambwa.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nBishop
\nNkalanga was among the Participants of the 1st AMECEA Plenary which was known by
\nthen as ITEBEA in Dar es Salaam.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn
\nthe year 1966 Bishop Nkalanga was sent to establish a new diocese in Kabale in
\nUganda as Apostolic Administrator; an appointment which he carried out for
\nthree years; that is until 1969 when Pope Paul VI appointed him as Bishop of
\nBukoba taking over from Cardinal Rugambwa who was transferred to Dar es Salaam
\n.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nDue
\nto Health Reasons Bishop Nkalanga retired in 1973 as Ordinary of the diocese, and
\nthat was the time he decided to join the Benedictines Congregation.<\/div>\n
