{"id":13430,"date":"2021-10-15T17:02:31","date_gmt":"2021-10-15T17:02:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=13430"},"modified":"2021-10-18T08:12:58","modified_gmt":"2021-10-18T08:12:58","slug":"cuea-members-of-catholic-university-of-eastern-africa-asked-to-embrace-ethical-teaching-modalities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2021\/10\/15\/cuea-members-of-catholic-university-of-eastern-africa-asked-to-embrace-ethical-teaching-modalities\/","title":{"rendered":"CUEA: Members of Catholic University of Eastern Africa Encouraged to Embrace Ethical Teaching Modalities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Members of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) an institution of higher learning owned by Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), have been urged to keenly observe ethical values of teaching and learning for realization of quality result.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement shared with AMECEA online on Thursday, October 14, Bishop Paul Kariuki Njiru the Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops\u2019 (KCCB) Commission for Education and Religious Education while addressing staff, students and stakeholders during convocation Mass last month noted that the \u201cworld requires ethical leadership in terms of learning and governance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He called upon CUEA family to \u201cembrace ethical and spiritual pillars in teaching and learning,\u201d believing that \u201cteaching is a relationship based on mutual trust and loyalty.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bishop Kariuki of Kenya\u2019s Catholic Diocese of Embu asked CUEA staff to prescribe the necessary tenets \u201cin order to have meaningful learning as we develop our national and global capacity for good leadership, governance, as well as entrepreneurship and community service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He noted Church believes that the Spirit of the Lord enables human beings through the development of their intelligence and talent to find meaning in life hence \u201cCUEA is dedicated to research and the dissemination of truth, (and) goes ahead to form students into ethical leaders for Church and Society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCUEA is so passionate about offering quality education to all, so passionate about becoming a pillar of research in the Eastern Africa region, and so passionate about consistently and continuously entrenching the University\u2019s core values in all it does,\u201d Bishop Kariuki who is Council member of CUEA underscored adding that the University aims to produce ethical leaders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Prelate, values that drive CUEA to be distinctive and stand out as a faith-based institution include \u201cprayer, honesty, transparency and charity among others,\u201d which give true meaning to service and standing out among the league of universities globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On his part, the CUEA Vice Chancellor Rev. Fr. Stephen Mbugua Ngari echoed the Bishop\u2019s sentiments on molding ethical leaders saying, \u201cAn ethical leader is one who is God fearing, respectful, creative and innovative, willing to serve others, resourceful, honest and a champion of justice.\u201d Hence \u201cdissemination of quality education and the formation of our students into ethical leaders is CUEA\u2019s purpose for existence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe believe that faith informs truth and so we must be dedicated to research and the dissemination of truth,\u201d Prof. Fr. Mbugua said and narrated further, \u201cWe focus on life-long learning programs so as to form and inspire our students to be ethical leaders through Judeo-Christian-African and other inter-cultural values. \u201c<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cBy embedding the social teaching of the Church in our curriculum, we make our students and staff catalysts for integral human development. This enables CUEA\u2019s students, alumni and staff to achieve personal fulfilment in life,\u201d Fr.
