\nThe Archbishop
\nof Mombasa Most Rev Martin Kivuva on 29th December 2015 received the
\nPallium which was presented to him by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South
\nSudan, Most Rev Daniel Balvo at Holy Ghost Cathedral, Mombasa.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe
\ncelebration of receiving the pallium was also attended by H.E. John Cardinal
\nNjue, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi, Most Rev. Peter Kairo of
\nNjeri, Rt. Rev. Joseph Alessandro of Garisa, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Barbara of
\nMalindi and other national and county government dignitaries.  <\/div>\n

\nThe event
\ncomes after his appointment by Pope Francis on 9th December, 2014 to be the new
\nArchbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa, replacing the late
\nArchbishop Boniface Lele. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nPallium is
\na liturgical vestment worn over the chasuble. It is<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

bestowed by the Pope on Archbishops
\nhaving metropolitan jurisdiction as a symbol of their participation in papal
\nauthority. It is made of a circular strip of white lamb’s wool about two inches
\nwide and is placed over the shoulders. Two vertical bands, extending from the
\ncircular strip in the front and back, give the pallium a Y-shaped appearance.
\nSix crosses, one each on the chest and back and on each shoulder and band,
\nadorn the vestment.<\/p>\n

\nPope
\nFrancis decided that each newly-appointed metropolitan Archbishop should be
\nformally vested at a ceremony held in his own archdiocese, by the Apostolic
\nNuncio, replacing the tradition of the Roman Pontiff presenting the Pallium on
\nthe Feast of St Peter and St Paul in Rome, thus greatly favoring the
\nparticipation of the local Church.  <\/div>\n
