{"id":12342,"date":"2021-05-28T15:46:57","date_gmt":"2021-05-28T15:46:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=12342"},"modified":"2021-05-28T16:05:04","modified_gmt":"2021-05-28T16:05:04","slug":"vatican-it-is-time-to-act-cardinal-turkson-says-as-vatican-launches-7-year-laudato-si-action-platform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2021\/05\/28\/vatican-it-is-time-to-act-cardinal-turkson-says-as-vatican-launches-7-year-laudato-si-action-platform\/","title":{"rendered":"VATICAN: \u201cIt is Time to Act,\u201d Cardinal Turkson says as Vatican Launches 7-Year Laudato Si\u2019 Action Platform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the Church concludes the special year of the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis\u2019 Encyclical Letter <em>Laudato Si\u2019<\/em> and launches a seven-year action platform, the Prefect of the Dicastery for the Promotion of Integral Human Development (PIHD) His Eminence Peter Cardinal Turkson\u00a0has encouraged eco-action, calling on all people of good will to make the \u201cworld a greener and better place, healthier for us and sustainable for our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cNow more than ever it&#8217;s time to act, to do something concrete,\u201d Cardinal Turkson said during a Webinar session on Tuesday, May 25, organized by the Dicastery for PIHD adding that \u201cWe can all change for a just and sustainable future and we must rethink and apply new models; reject questionable life behaviors; and engage in new lived realities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Cardinal disclosed further, \u201cthe Dicastery is pleased to announce that the <em>Laudato Si<\/em>\u2019 year will flow into an action-oriented project (dubbed) the \u201cLaudato Si&#8217; Action Platform,\u201d a seven-year journey towards integral ecology.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He reiterates Pope Francis\u2019 invitation for all to renew the dialogue on how to build the future of the planet saying, \u201cThe mitigation of the effects of the current imbalance depends on what we do now\u2026we need to recognize our role as ecological citizens and make the world a greener and better place, healthier for us and sustainable for our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cardinal Turkson has acknowledged that even though Covid-19 pandemic prevented celebrations, conferences, events, documentary and an immersive show for the fifth anniversary of the Encyclical letter in the previous year, the \u201cdiscomfort sparkled creativity of the Dicastery with many rich initiatives and activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLocal churches, associations, movements, and many others have responded with great enthusiasm to Pope Francis\u2019 appeal to take care of our common home,\u201d he disclosed adding, \u201cLaudato Si\u2019 living gardens and chapels were born, places not only made of trees but born from the interconnection between the territory, humanity and its educational, social and economic activities, respecting ecosystems and biodiversity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the Webinar session convened by the Dicastery for PIHD in collaboration with other organizations including, network of Catholic Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Ecclesial networks, youth networks and leaders of the sectorial working groups, the Coordinator of the sector on \u201cEcology &amp; Creation\u201d in the Dicastery for PIHD Fr. Joshtrom Kureethadam highlighted that realization of\u00a0 Laudato Si\u2019 Action Platform will be \u201conly through partnership, walking the \u201cSynodal\u201d path that Pope Francis is proposing to the entire Church.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIn this way, we also respond to the Holy Father\u2019s invitation to \u201cprepare the future together\u201d in the context of the current pandemic,\u201d Fr.
