\nThe Catholic Diocese of Marsabit, Kenya has expressed joy over the
\nopening of the only radio station operating in the jungle; \u201cRadio Jangwani
\n106.3 FM\u201d owned by the Diocese.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nRadio Jangwani which means \u2018Desert Radio\u2019 as the name suggest,  operates in the largest county in Kenya
\nmainly semi-arid and dominated by pastoralists.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn a telephone interview with Waumini Communications, The Radio
\nDirector Fr. Ibrahim Racho said that the radio which went on air on 26th,
\nJanuary, 2016, is a tool for evangelization and aims at addressing social,
\neconomic and political concerns of the people of Marsabit.  \u201cThrough our programs, we intend to promote
\ncommunity dialogue and co-existence in a region confronted by frequent ethnic
\nclashes, cattle rustling and cross border conflicts amongst others,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr Racho confirmed that the radio has been well received by the
\ncommunity members who have given their feedback through the phone calls and
\ntext messages sent to the radio.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe added that though there are 14 different communities in
\nMarsabit County, the radio Jangwani broadcasts in four languages: Swahili,
\nBorana, Turkana and Samburu since they are widely understood by all.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr. Racho thanked Marsabit Bishop Rt. Rev Peter Kihara who is also
\nthe KCCB- Commission for Communication Vice Chairman for ensuring that the
\nDiocese has a radio station, Waumini Communications and other partners for the
\nrealization of the project.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nMeanwhile, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – Waumini
\ncommunications<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n

Managing Director David Omwoyo said that Radio Jangwani is one
\nof the 20 radio stations envisaged in the strategic plan that hopes to have 20
\nradio stations across the country by 2020.<\/p>\n

\nOmwoyo said that, Waumini Communications is committed to ensuring
\nthat the radio has reliable means of transport to enable accessibility even to the
\ninterior parts of the County for news coverage and program production
\nhighlighting the need to empower radio personnel through capacity building,
\ntraining on conflict resolution, investigative journalism and others as the
\nneed arise.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said the radio is a vital tool in addressing issues of tribal
\nclashes by preaching peace, encouraging rural development, offering community
\neducation and addressing issues of radicalization through its daily
\nprogramming.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe radio that still require a higher transmission power, covers
\n150km radius and is reaching to all the 13 Parishes on a 78,000 square
\nkilometers.<\/div>\n
