{"id":11643,"date":"2021-02-05T19:48:12","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T19:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=11643"},"modified":"2021-02-05T19:48:12","modified_gmt":"2021-02-05T19:48:12","slug":"signis-announces-international-radio-podcast-contest-for-worlds-young-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2021\/02\/05\/signis-announces-international-radio-podcast-contest-for-worlds-young-people\/","title":{"rendered":"SIGNIS: Announces International Radio Podcast Contest for Worlds\u2019 Young People"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To empower young people in their career as radio broadcasters, SIGNIS leadership has called on interested youths across all continents to apply for a radio contest competition on podcast slated for June 2021.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an interview with <em>AMECEA Online<\/em> Friday, February 5, SIGNIS Vice-President Fr. Paul Samasumo has said that the competition \u201cis a way of interesting a younger generation of radio broadcasters into the mission of SIGNIS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a statement shared with <em>AMECEA Online<\/em> announcing the competition, the June contest for world\u2019s young people titled \u201cYouth Competition on Podcast 2021,\u201d the youth are expected to \u201csubmit 1-3 minutes podcasts on Pope Francis\u2019 recent Encyclical Letter\u00a0<em>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/content\/francesco\/en\/encyclicals\/documents\/papa-francesco_20201003_enciclica-fratelli-tutti.html\">Fratelli Tutti:<\/a> <\/em>On fraternity and social friendship.\u201d<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The intent of choosing the Pope\u2019s Encyclical is to encourage the youth to read the document and be \u201cacquainted with the powerful message of <em>Fratelli Tutti<\/em>,\u201d Fr. Samasumo who is also the head of the English and Swahili Service of English Africa at Vatican Radio clarified.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Even though SIGNIS is a global Catholic Association for Communication, contenders for the radio competition of up to 35 years of age must not only be Catholics: \u201cnon-Catholics\u201d can also contest as long as they share the ideals of SIGNIS,\u201d Fr. Samasumo has disclosed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the instructions on the shared statement, \u201cAll Podcast programs must be submitted with attached synopsis in English, and recommended or approved by the SIGNIS Country President.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Apart from some cash prizes, the Catholic organization is inviting youth from SIGNIS Africa, SIGNIS Asia, SIGNIS Latin America &amp; the Caribbean, SIGNIS Europe and SIGNIS North America &amp; the Pacific \u201cto join the competition, and sponsor the winner(s) to the International Radio Contest of Sri Lanka.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SIGNIS leadership has declared that they are \u201cnot responsible for any copyright related issues,\u201d and \u201cThe podcasts will be made available for broadcast on Vatican Radio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The June competition organized for world\u2019s young people across the continents, is in preparation for the first-ever SIGNIS Catholic International Radio Encounter in February 2022, in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the statement signed by SIGNIS Asia Secretary who doubles as Radio Encounter Convenor Ms. Bernadetta Widi, the February international forum themed,\u00a0\u201cEngaging the Youth for a Dynamic Radio Uniting Asia and the World,\u201d is expected to bring together \u201csome of SIGNIS\u2019 radio experts to share experiences and learn from each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The statement reads further, \u201cA key feature will be the participation of some young people from all continents, at this international encounter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event will be hosted by SIGNIS Asia Radio Desk in conjunction with the SIGNIS World Radio desk and the leadership intends to invite an official from the Dicastery of Communication.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Commenting on the contest, AMECEA Social Communications Coordinator Fr Andrew Kaufa said, \u201cThis is a rare opportunity for the youth in AMECEA region. I beg all National Communications Coordinators in the region through the Bishops chair for Social Communications in the Conferences to ensure that the youths in their country read the Holy Father\u2019s message in <em>Fratelli Tutti<\/em> and participate in this contest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI noted that for whatever reason, hardly any of the members of SIGNIS in AMECEA region participated in the workshop which SIGNIS Africa organized for the youth on citizen journalism and videography which took place from November to December 2020.
