{"id":11584,"date":"2021-01-29T16:15:39","date_gmt":"2021-01-29T16:15:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/?p=11584"},"modified":"2021-01-30T06:33:59","modified_gmt":"2021-01-30T06:33:59","slug":"kenya-president-uhuru-challenges-loreto-sisters-to-remain-a-highly-profiled-religious-institutions-at-the-launch-of-100-years-of-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2021\/01\/29\/kenya-president-uhuru-challenges-loreto-sisters-to-remain-a-highly-profiled-religious-institutions-at-the-launch-of-100-years-of-service\/","title":{"rendered":"KENYA: \u00a0President Uhuru Challenges Loreto Sisters to Remain a Highly Profiled Religious Institution at the Launch of 100 Years of Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Kenya\u2019s President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibvmeasternafrica.co.ke\/\">Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary<\/a> (IBVM) commonly known as Loreto Sisters to remain highly profiled in their service to humanity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy challenge to you Loreto Sisters is to continue with your noble work integrating our society and that you continue to remain one of the most highly profiled institutions run by distinguished women,\u201d President Uhuru said during the launch of the centenary year for the Loreto Eastern Africa Province Saturday, January 23.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe solid and all round foundation that you offer girls, boys and also our young women and men has set your institution apart in education sector,\u201d\u2026 and \u201cjudging from history I am confident that every girl, every boy privileged to attend a Loreto Institution becomes uniquely fit to face the challenges and exploit the opportunities of our first changing world,\u201d the Head of State who himself went through a Loreto school as a child for about two years affirmed the work of the Sisters.<\/p>\n<p>He acknowledged that the work of Loreto Sisters in the country has contributed to the creative and performing arts, politics, governance, religion and theology, environmental protection and community service among many other fields.<\/p>\n<p>The Loreto Eastern Africa Province comprising of three countries was established in 1921 and has 24 educational Institutions; 21 in Kenya, two in Tanzania and one in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>During his speech, the President asked the Sisters to preserve and protect the history of Loreto so the story of the Sisters can be told even to future generation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy humble request is for you to preserve the history of Loreto, the icon and the artefacts at <a href=\"http:\/\/loretoconventmsongari.com\/\">Loreto Msongari<\/a>. This way we can afford to give the future generation the full breath and perspective of the great story that is Loreto,\u201d the President narrated.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-11603 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Loreto-300x282.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"238\" height=\"231\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn my part, to ensure that we do not have any interference or threat of disposal or alteration of this success, I hereby direct the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning jointly with the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage to ensure that the land occupied by Loreto convent Msongari remains in the hands of the Loreto sisters through the granting of a free-hold title as a matter of public as well as historic interest,\u201d the Head of State directed.<\/p>\n<p>The President has further urged the alumni of Loreto schools in Kenya to support the Sisters\u2019 work and help \u201cmodernize the school infrastructure, re-stock the libraries, upgrade the IT (Information Technology) systems and expand the capacity of its great centres of holistic learning,\u201d calling on them to establish an endowment fund and scholarship program.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, President Uhuru has offered his personal donation of Kshs 10 Million (US$ 100,000.00) for the endowment fund to support the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the Saturday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q8_MsW5rap4&amp;feature=youtu.be\">event held at the Loreto\u2019s Mary Ward Centre in Nairobi<\/a>, the Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) Archbishop Philip Anyolo who presided over the Holy Eucharist emphasized during the homily that the Sisters need not forget their history which depicts the journey where they have come from.<\/p>\n<p>Highlighting the theme for the year-long centenary celebration \u201cGod\u2019s faithfulness,\u201d Archbishop Anyolo of Kenya\u2019s Kisumu Archdiocese reminded the Sisters to appreciate God\u2019s love which has enabled them reach where they are and encouraged them to continue in the service of transforming people and moving them closer to God.<\/p>\n<p>On her part, the Province Leader of Loreto Eastern Africa Sr. Lucy Nderi appreciated the work of the founding Sisters and promised their continued dedication to keep the legacy of the congregation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we endeavor to respond to the new and emerging needs of an ever-changing world, we will continue to go where the need is greatest and provide an answer to those who live in the periphery of the society,\u201d Sr. Nderi disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The Congregation is geared to begin another education institution in Kenya\u2019s Kilifi county as a milestone to mark the 100 years celebration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sr. Jecinter Antoinette Okoth, FSSA Kenya\u2019s President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged members of the Institute&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":11568,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9,14],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-11584","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-amecea-news","category-kenya"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11584","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=11584"}],"version-history":[{"count":8,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11584\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":11610,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/11584\/revisions\/11610"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/11568"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=11584"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=11584"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=11584"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
