{"id":111,"date":"2016-02-05T15:40:00","date_gmt":"2016-02-05T15:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2016\/02\/05\/uganda-inter-religious-council-of\/"},"modified":"2016-05-03T09:40:31","modified_gmt":"2016-05-03T09:40:31","slug":"uganda-inter-religious-council-of","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/index.php\/2016\/02\/05\/uganda-inter-religious-council-of\/","title":{"rendered":"UGANDA: Inter-Religious Council of Uganda sets dates for National Prayers ahead of the Uganda General Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nThe Council of Presidents of Inter-Religious Council of<br \/>\nUganda (IRCU) has organized the weekend of February 12-14, 2016 to conduct<br \/>\nnational prayers for peace, unity and stability as the country prepares for the<br \/>\nGeneral Elections due February 18, 2016.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-xYh_0gtczcc\/VrTCTF5WjKI\/AAAAAAAAFYk\/W8N5WicxW48\/s1600\/DSCN5127%255B1%255D.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"151\" src=\"http:\/\/communications.amecea.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/DSCN51275B15D.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a>Sheikh Ramadhan<br \/>\nShaban Mubajje, Co-Chair IRCU and the Mufti of Uganda said that the prayers will be held by all<br \/>\nreligious faiths in Uganda at their respective places of worship.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n\u201cThe Muslims are expected to hold their prayer day on Friday<br \/>\nFebruary 12, while the Seventh-day Adventists on Saturday February 13 and the<br \/>\nCatholics, Anglicans, Orthodox, Pentecostals, Evangelicals and others on Sunday<br \/>\nFebruary 14, respectively,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"background: white; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nAddressing journalists on Friday February 5<br \/>\nat the offices of the IRCU in Namirembe, a Kampala suburb; reflecting on the<br \/>\nStatus of the 2016 General elections, Sheikh Ramadhan pointed out some of the<br \/>\nchallenges that have in the past brought the would-be democratic process to<br \/>\ndisrepute. \u201cThese are such as:- inadequate internal democracy within political<br \/>\nparties, credibility of the Electoral Commission, vote buying, voter apathy,<br \/>\nintolerance and violence, militia groups, intimidation, use of abusive language<br \/>\nand ballot stuffing,\u201d he said adding that. \u201cA few weeks to the polling day,<br \/>\nthese issues remain the key concerns of many people both within and outside the<br \/>\ncountry and there is a need for urgent action.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\nThe Mufti urged all leaders from the Christian, Muslim, and<br \/>\nother communities to pray for the candidates, the voters, various groups<br \/>\nincluding women, children and the youth for a peaceful election.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"line-height: normal; margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin-bottom: 0in; text-align: justify;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\nHe also called on all politicians not to<br \/>\nbribe voters, incite violence or hold voters to their personal desires. He<br \/>\nadvised that they need to display a high level of statesmanship so that they<br \/>\ncan be able to lead this country to prosperity. <\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<b style=\"mso-bidi-font-weight: normal;\"><i style=\"mso-bidi-font-style: normal;\">Meanwhile,<\/i><\/b> the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Rev.<br \/>\nFr. Charles Kasibante who represented Most Rev. Charles Kizito Lwanga, the<br \/>\nArchbishop of Kampala urged believers to pray to God to provide the right<br \/>\nleaders for the country.<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n\u201cAs religious leaders we are not supposed to<br \/>\nbe involved in partisan election or campaign for any individual politician<br \/>\nbecause all sides are our people and people of <br \/>\nGod. Politicians are welcomed to our churches but we call upon everyone to pray<br \/>\nthat God would provide the right leaders for the country vote,\u201d Fr. Kasibante<br \/>\nsaid. <\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\nThe Press Conference was also attended by the<br \/>\nSecretary General of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Msgr John Baptist Kauta<br \/>\nand the former&nbsp;<em>chairperson<\/em>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<em>Judicial<\/em>&nbsp;Service<br \/>\nCommission and the&nbsp;<em>head<\/em>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<em>Elders Forum, Justice James Ogoola.<\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<em>Justice Ogoola called on all Ugandans to vote for a<br \/>\nleader who can lead Uganda with a steady hand and a sober head in matters of<br \/>\nInternational Relations.<\/em><\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in; text-align: justify; vertical-align: baseline;\">\n<em>He also urged everyone to show support for the second<br \/>\nPresidential <\/em>Elections debate slated for<br \/>\nFebruary 13, 2016.
