AMECEA
\nSecretariat has established an Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
\nCoordination Office in order to enhance efficient internet systems and
\nnetworking at the Secretariat, which is located along Gitanga Road in Nairobi,
\nKenya.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nAccording to
\nFr. Chrisantus Ndaga, the Head of the Social Communication Department at the
\nAMECEA Secretariat, the Office with fulltime employees will be officially
\nlaunched on Saturday 6th February 2016. In order to enhance internet
\nand Wi-Fi connectivity, the Secretariat has invested in procurement of
\nequipment, the setting up of servers and creating a centralized internal link
\nto all the offices. With the installation of the servers, the Secretariat will
\nbe able to create a web that will host digitized documents of important events
\nof AMECEA so that they can be accessible online.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nFr. Ndaga
\nsaid that this project is designed to serve the AMECEA Secretariat by
\ninter-connecting the Departments with the Central Administration office,
\npromote effective networking with AMECEA institutions enhance communication
\nwith National Conferences offices.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe further
\nsaid, \u201cThe ICT project is part of the implementation of the resolutions passed
\nby the Bishops during the 17th AMECEA Plenary that was held in Kenya, 2011 and
\nreiterated during the 18th AMECEA Plenary Assembly, held in Lilongwe, Malawi,
\n2014.\u201d During the AMECEA Executive Board Meeting of May 2015, the Bishops
\napproved the proposed plan and advised that in this age of new media, it is
\nimperative for the AMECEA Secretariat to explore the effective use of ICT for
\nthe evangelization. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIt is
\nenvisaged that the established of an ICT Office will enable the operators at
\nthe Secretariat to provide quality services to the Bishops, Institutions and all
\nnetworks within and outside the AMECEA Region. <\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cFor a long
\ntime, rather than enjoying good ICT services, the AMECEA Secretariat staff had
\nbeen facing poor services issues which could only be resolved by an ICT
\nexpert,\u201d he said adding that \u201cdespite of these challenges, we were hopeful that one
\nday a permanent solution will be found.\u201d<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIn order to
\nemphasize the importance of this ICT Office, Fr. Ndaga said that it will be an
\neffective tool that will promote positive interaction among member Episcopal Conferences;
\nsharing of pastoral initiatives, provide education in social matters and as
\nplatform for evangelization.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThis
\nproject, Fr. Ndaga said, aims at promoting the online presence of the Church
\nthrough the usage of ICT and creating a medium for effective collaboration
\namong member Conferences in the AMECEA region. It will also help the staff of
\nAMECEA Secretariat to be more effective and efficient in the management and
\ndissemination of information within the region.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe further
\nsaid that it is within the vision of AMECEA Secretariat that the installation
\nof ICT equipment will promote information sharing and research online; the
\nprovision of technical support and capacity building support of the AMECEA
\nstaff; the building of a network of communication with National Episcopal
\nConferences in the region; the promotion of online interaction and outreach to
\nyoung people through Social Media and also online sharing of faith and building
\nof online SCCs.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n\u201cApart from
\nconcentrating to AMECEA secretariat,\u201d Fr Ndaga said, \u201cit is the wish of AMECEA
\nSecretariat that this initiative should trickle down to the National Conferences level and eventually to the Diocesan level.\u201d The AMECEA Social Communications
\nDepartment, he said, will work closely with National Conferences to assess the
\nICT situation of the National Secretariat then work together with them in
\nimproving the ICT systems.<\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nHe said that
\nthe first phase of this project is for a period of three years and it will be
\nimplemented in partnership with Healey Foundation, a US based Charity
\norganization. \u201cBecause of the complexity of the project, the Social
\nCommunication Department is planning to engage some other partners for support
\nfor other activities linked to the use of new media for evangelization,\u201d Fr.
\nNdaga said.<\/div>\n
