The Prelate of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima, has urged health workers in the diocese to maintain professionalism while serving in various health facilities.
Speaking during the diocese’s jubilee celebration for health workers this week, Bishop Chaima challenged them to work with integrity.
“Among the significant tasks that Our Lord performed during His time on earth was healing,” Bishop Chaima stated.
“Jesus healed many people who suffered from various ailments and never left anyone unattended.”
He emphasized the importance of applying Catholic principles in their duties, which include respecting human dignity, valuing life, and upholding human integrity.
He advised them to refrain from any temptations to steal drugs and medical equipment that are meant to benefit the underprivileged.
The celebration, which attracted over 500 health workers from both public and CHAM facilities, began with a visit to Zomba Central Hospital, located about two and a half kilometers from the Cathedral of the Diocese of Zomba, where they cheered some patients. This was followed by a march to the Cathedral, where a Mass was celebrated.
At the end of the Eucharistic celebration, the health workers shared a meal, symbolizing their unity as pilgrims of hope in the universal church before returning to their respective duty posts.
