At the 2025 national Vocation Sunday celebration in Malawi, Archbishop Thomas Luke Msusa of Blantyre Archdiocese has urged Catholic youths to be missionaries of hope.
The Archdiocese hosted the Good Shepherd Sunday event, normally held on the fourth Easter Sunday, at Mzedi Parish, bringing thousands of youth, clergy, and the lay faithful under the theme ‘The Youth: Missionaries of Hope; Gift of Life.’
Archbishop Msusa emphasized the call for young people to discern their vocations and think seriously about their calling, saying, “Youth should be able to meditate and see whether God is calling them to priesthood or to be a Catholic Sister.”
The Archbishop, who was main celebrant during the Eucharistic celebration, also added that the youth should be prayerful.
In his homily, he reflected on Jesus as the Good Shepherd, stating that as Christ laid down His life for His flock, we are called to lead with love and sacrifice. The Church needs young people to rise as missionaries of hope in a world struggling with many challenges.
The national PMS director, Rev. Fr. Peter Madeya, in his speech, stressed the need for youth to embrace vocations, whether to the priesthood, religious life, marriage, or lay ministry, as pathways to renew the Church and society.
Peter Damiyano, chairperson of the Archdiocesan Youth in the Archdiocese, said in an interview that events like these have a lasting impact on the vocational life of the youth.
Youth representatives from parishes, schools, and universities within the Archdiocese of Blantyre attended the function.
