“Catholic schools have long been pillars of moral and intellectual formation, producing leaders who serve with wisdom, justice and charity. I still remind you about collaboration. In this journey, collaboration is important and crucial. Just as Jesus walked with His disciples, we too must walk together in solidarity with the Church and shared purpose. Catholic Education cannot thrive in isolation it requires the commitment of all stakeholders”, says bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe in his opening speech at a conference of Catholic Private Educational Institutional Association-Kenya (CaPEIA-K) held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Nairobi-Kenya from April 8th – 11th, 2025.
Bishop Kamomoe who is the Vice-Chairman for the Commission for Education and Religious Education (CERE) department at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), was addressing heads and administrators of Primary Catholic sponsored schools across the country.
He echoed the theme of the Jubilee year and urged the participants to give hope to learners and form people who are responsible with strong personalities.
“As we celebrate the year of jubilee as ‘Pilgrims of Hope’, this gathering takes on a deeper significance. A Jubilee is a time of renewal, to reflect and recommit ourselves. Let us ensure that we are able to give hope to our learners and we are forming personalities with character strength or intrinsic resilience, the strength from inside to help our learners to establish good personalities and that they are able to resist the influences of evil and all the malpractices in our world today”, he narrated.
Bishop Kamomoe, one of the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi, urged the teachers to embrace a balanced approach of including tradition and innovation since the digital age offers both positive and negative opportunities that must be addressed.
“As we move forward, we must also take a balanced approach that blends tradition and innovation. The digital age present both opportunities and challenges, remember now the reality of artificial intelligence which can be very helpful but has very many acute challenges, so we must address all this and see how they can help us and see how to mitigate any negative challenges”.
He insisted that education is the path to transformation, and each student that walks through the doors of Catholic institution should live not only “with academic knowledge but with a strengthened moral compass, and a deep sense of responsibility towards society”, he continued and noted “This what set Catholic Education apart, it does not merely prepare students for careers, it prepares them for life, instilling in them Christian virtues that guides there decision and action in every sphere of influence”.
