ZAMBIA: Caritas Solwezi Lauds Missio Malta’s Borehole Donation

The community of St. John Parish, Kimiteto, of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi in Zambia, witnessed the blessing and handover of the newly drilled borehole donated by a Maltese family through Missio Malta.
Addressing the community members, traditional leaders and the media crew of Radio Kabangabanga, on behalf of the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi Rt. Rev. Charles J.S. Kasonde during the handover of the borehole to the community on Monday 24th February 2025 (recently), the Caritas Solwezi Director Fr. Noel Haaninga expressed gratitude to the donors for their commendable gesture.
” Caritas Solwezi hails the donation as a testament to kindness and generosity. We thank God for people who are far away, yet they help us whom they don’t know. We thank God for their kindness and generosity. May God may bless them abundantly,” said Fr. Haaninga
The event involved blessing, commissioning and handing over of the borehole to the community in the parish, in Kimiteto, in the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi in Zambia, Africa.
The Caritas Solwezi Director who is also Parish Priest of St. John Parish in the Diocese of Solwezi also through a representative thanked the local traditional leader for allowing the borehole to be drilled at the selected family’s land.
“We appreciate your leadership and willingness to support the community’s development. The borehole is not just for one family, but for the entire community,” said Fr. Haaninga.
The Caritas Solwezi Director emphasized that the Catholic Church does not discriminate and that everyone can access the water from the borehole.
“We believe that access to clean water is a fundamental human right. We are committed to ensuring that everyone in the community has access to this basic necessity,” he said.
The borehole is expected to greatly improve the livelihood of community members, especially women, who previously had to walk long distances to fetch water.
“The borehole is now near and within reach, saving time and energy for our women and children,” said one of the woman beneficiaries.
The community members expressed their gratitude to Caritas Solwezi and the donor Joseph Farrugia Family of Malta for the borehole, promising to take good care of the facility and ensure its sustainability.
Missio Malta is the Maltese Islands branch of the Pontifical Mission Societies and it is the official mission aid agency of the Catholic Church, continuing the mission of Jesus Christ in the world.
