Bishop of the Diocese of Kasese Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale has urged Christians to focus more on the salvation of their souls than satisfying their individual needs during this year’s Lenten season.
In his homily while presiding over Holy Mass at Our Lady of Assumption Kasese Cathedral Church, the Bishop explained Lenten season as a time for holy conversations, teaching catechism to catechumen, and for Christians to share with the less privileged and their Lord, the Saviour.
Bishop Kibira who asked Christ’s followers to observe the three major pillars of Lent – Prayer, fasting and arms giving – condemned use of cellphones while in Church which, saying that it doesn’t only make them lose focus of the word of God but is an act of indiscipline before the Holy Alter.
The Prelate condemned the use of phone during the celebration of Eucharistic wondering why some people fail to deduct one to two hours to God in Holy Mass, saying that life of pretending must stop for people to come to church only to chat on social media instead of listening to the word of God.
The Bishop who later urged Christians, especially couples against pride and empty talk, called for what he described as attention listening which among things, require individual moral audits that should be guided by spiritual interventions.
Bishop Kibira also described the forty days of Lenten as a period of doing more pastoral work and teaching Catechism to old baptized catholic preparing them to share on the Holy Eucharist during Easter.
Earlier the Ordinary had said he had opened a Bank account for the future of Bridge for Peace Children’s home, urging every Christian to support the orphans in the children’s home.
