ZAMBIA:  On 29th World Day for Consecrated Life, Bishop Lungu Acknowledges Vital Role of Charism In Church’s Mission

Bishop Lungu of Chipata Diocese has on the on 29th World Day for Consecrated Life, commended the Consecrated men and women in Zambia for their unwavering commitment to Christ’s mission and service to the Church and society.

In a message delivered by Rt. Rev. George C. Z. Lungu, Bishop of Chipata and ZCCB Bishop Director for the Consecrated, the Church acknowledged the vital role of religious men and women in fostering hope in a world marked by uncertainty and crisis. Bishop Lungu highlighted their dedication to the poor, the sick, and the abandoned, as well as their pursuit of justice and commitment to a life of prayer.

“Your commitment to those most in need and your dedication to justice and prayer serve as a beacon of light in the midst of darkness,” Bishop Lungu stated.

He expressed gratitude for their presence and service in all dioceses in Zambia, encouraging them to use the occasion to reflect on the future of consecrated life and inspire young people to consider religious vocations. He noted that in an era of increasing secularization, the Church relies on the witness of consecrated persons more than ever.

Bishop Lungu also reminded the faithful about the upcoming Jubilee for Consecrated Life, scheduled for October 8-9, 2025, in Rome, under the theme “Pilgrims of Hope, on the Way of Peace.” He urged religious congregations to begin preparations for the event and explore ways it could benefit the local Church in Zambia.

Concluding his message, Bishop Lungu prayed for God’s continued blessings upon all consecrated men and women, encouraging them to remain steadfast in their vocation for the salvation of the world.

The World Day for Consecrated Life is celebrated annually on February 2, coinciding with the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. In some dioceses of Zambia, the celebration will take place on February 8, 2025, to accommodate local schedules.
