SOUTH SUDAN: Tombura Yambio Prelate Calls for Responsible Social Media Use During Jubilee Year of Hope

As the jubilee year invites the global Church to embrace season of grace, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY), South Sudan, Western Equatoria State has called upon the Religious men and women within CDTY to use social media wisely, with discretion during this year of hope 2025.
“Let us use our established social media platforms wisely, with respect, discretion, and care. As ministers of Christ, we must protect each other and the people of God we serve”.
The local ordinary of CDTY directed that no one under any circumstances should use inappropriate, unkind, or disrespectful language against each other especially of public forums which they have no control.
In his letter dated 10th January 2025 the prelate acknowledged that as human being they are not perfect and therefore if one is having concern over the other should not take it to the media.
Regarding the use diocesan social media platform, bishop Eduardo reminded the clergy diocesan media platform are meant to serve as tools for unity, communication, and spiritual growth and not for the propagation of hurtful or harmful words encouraging them to be charitable in their interactions with one another.
Echoing the words of Pope Francis on fraternity, bishop Kussala stressed “Let us always strive to follow the wisdom of Pope Francis, who calls for fraternity and unity in all things”.
Reflecting on the words of St. Paul to Ephesians 4;29, he called all the religious to “speak with love, to uplift, and unite”.
He called on them to let their online and offline actions reflect the love of Christ and strengthen the bonds of their diocesan family.
