SECAM: Standing Committee Invites Delegates to the 20th Plenary Assembly in Rwanda

The Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), a continental body of Bishops has invited delegates from the National Episcopal Conference within the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) to its 20th Plenary Assembly themed as Christ, Source of Hope, Reconciliation, and Peace”.

Scheduled to take place from 30th to 4th August 2024, the event will be hosted in Kigali Rwanda.

In his letter shared with AMECEA Online Newsletter, Fr. Rafael Simbine Junior the Secretary General of SECAM emphasized the importance of the Plenary Assembly, which occurs after every three years as a unique opportunity for bishops, clergy, religious, and laity to convene and reflect deeply on the Church’s mission in addressing the pastoral challenges and opportunities across the continent.

“The Plenary Assembly, held every three years, provides an invaluable opportunity for bishops, clergy, religious, and laity from across the continent to reflect on the Church’s mission and the pastoral challenges we face in Africa and Madagascar”.

Delegates from each National Episcopal Conference in the AMECEA region are requested to participate as follows: Kenya, with 27 dioceses, is to send the Conference President, three delegates, and the National Secretary General. Tanzania, which has 35 dioceses, is to send the Conference President, three delegates, and the National Secretary General. Zambia, with 11 dioceses, is to send the Conference President, one delegate, and the National Secretary General. Similarly, Malawi, with 8 dioceses, is to send the Conference President, one delegate, and the National Secretary General.

For Sudan, comprising 11 dioceses, the Conference President, one delegate, and the National Secretary General are invited. Uganda, with 19 dioceses, is requested to send the Conference President, two delegates, and the National Secretary General. Ethiopia, which has 13 dioceses, is to send the Conference President, one delegate, and the National Secretary General. Lastly, Eritrea, with 4 dioceses, is to send the Conference President, one delegate, and the National Secretary General.
