Members of the Kenya Conference of the Catholic Bishops (KCCB) have urged Catholic Communicators to be at the forefront of disseminating the message of hope to the people of God during this Jubilee Year 2025.

“As Catholic media, can we be in the fore front to lead example, by giving the correct information and always standing for the truth.

Speaking about the role of media in the Jubilee year on January 21st, Bishop Wallace Ng’ang’a Gachihi who is the Chairman of the Communication at the KCCB stressed to all communication team, and communication coordinators to use this jubilee year to disseminate message of hope.

“As Catholic media, can we be in the forefront to lead example, by giving the correct information and always standing for the truth”, said Bishop Wallace.

The Local Ordinary of Kenya’s Military Ordinariate invited communicators to enhance evangelization using media, to ensure that they use their media knowledge to evangelize, and to deepen their collaboration with other agents of evangelization starting from the Parishes, deaneries, going to the Dioceses.

He challenged the communicators to not only be giving information but also to be part of the jubilee events.

“Sometimes in the media society, we disseminate information, but we don’t participate, now as the Chair of communication I would like to challenge all the media people that we also participate, move away from behind the camera and come forward also and participate”.

Bishop Wallace further encouraged the media practitioners to disseminate the truth so that people can get hope. “Can we communicate something that can give hope to our people who go through our communication”.

He called on Catholic and secular media to prioritize truthful reporting that gives hope to the people, and to avoid focusing solely on the negative and sensational news.

On his part, Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri Diocese noted that Jubilee year is all about the need for media practitioners to familiarize themselves with liturgical aspects of Jubilee celebration.

“Familiarize yourself with the rite and with what is going to happen. Familiarize yourself with the symbolism so that, as you also explain and commentate on what is happening, you are making the people desire to be there and to be united”.

He added “There is a lot more happening there than what we see, and your camera should capture it, and your voice commentary should capture it only if you have done your groundwork to understand the rites or to understand what is expected.”
