MALAWI: Zomba Prelate Dares New Laity Leaders on Excellent Leadership
Luke Bisani
The Prelate of the Diocese of Zomba Rt. Rev. Alfred Chaima has challenged the newly elected laity leaders to work towards excellent leadership.
Speaking during a handover ceremony held at the Bishop’s residence this week, Bishop Chaima encouraged the incoming Laity Council to take the Church to greater heights.
He further urged the new leaders to continue the vision set by their predecessors from past years.
The prelate also applauded the outgoing leadership for their exceptional service over the past three years.
In June 2024, the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) approved an election calendar that indicated the completion of three tenures of the leaders who served the Church in various roles.
The elections started with electing leaders at the small Christian community level in the first week of September and ended with ushering in leaders at the national level.
Currently, voting of leaders all eight dioceses in Malawi has been completed, with the new leadership taking charge during the first weeks of January this year.
