ZAMBIA: Mongu Diocese Launches Jubilee Year 2025

Grace Kalenge

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mongu, Rt. Rev. Evans Chinyama Chinyemba, OMI, has officially launched the Jubilee Year 2025.

The launch which took place on Saturday, 11th, January 2025 began with a procession from the Curia Office to Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral, marking the start of this significant spiritual journey for the diocese.

During his homily, Bishop Chinyemba encouraged the faithful to remain hopeful, reminding them that hope does not disappoint.

He explained that hope is strengthened by proclaiming a year of the Lord’s favour and acknowledged that despite the anxieties and challenges people face in life, everyone continues to hope for something.

He noted that even those who disrupt the society, those who are of the habit of terrorizing communities, still hold on to hope though often misplaced.

Bishop Chinyemba reminded Christians that they are Pilgrims of Hope, called to enter the open doors of Christ while emphasizing that throughout the Jubilee Year, Jesus symbolically opens doors of hospitality, inviting every individual to encounter Him.

His Lordship explained that Jesus opens the doors to the Word of God and to the Eucharist, urging the faithful to live out their faith in a way that is relevant by breaking and sharing the Eucharist not only in worship but also in their actions.

Bishop Chinyemba encouraged works of charity, the promotion of forgiveness, and the fostering of reconciliation as essential expressions of their faith during this Jubilee.

In his closing remarks, Bishop Chinyemba called on parish priests and deans to create activities that will allow the faithful to actively engage with the Jubilee Year.

He reflected on the Church’s history of celebrating past Jubilees, which were often tied to specific events or themes, and noted that this year’s Jubilee is for all people, as captured in the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”

The Catholic Diocese of Mongu will celebrate the Jubilee Year in phases.
