ZAMBIA: Archbishop Banda Urges Newly Ordained Deacons to Embrace Unity and Service
Archdiocese of Lusaka
Archbishop Alick Banda has called on newly ordained deacons in Lusaka Archdiocese of Zambia to embody unity and selfless service in a society marked by division.
Speaking during the ordination of six deacons on Sunday, 8th December 2024, Archbishop Banda said diaconate is not a badge of honour but a mantle of service modeled after Jesus Christ, the servant of servants.
He reminded the deacons that their greatness will be measured by the service they render, especially to the poor, the marginalized, and the forgotten.
“Our Lord reminds us, ‘Whatever you do to the least, you do it to Him. May your lives inspire others to see the face of God,” he said.
Archbishop Banda also emphasized the importance of spiritual nourishment, urging the deacons to sustain themselves through the Word of God and the Eucharist while deepening their relationship with the Lord.
He called for servant-leadership and encouraged them to preach with conviction and integrity.
“Respond to today’s challenges of double standards, lies, and acts of retribution with the unchanging truth of the Gospel. Be bridge-builders, fostering unity, peace, and reconciliation.” Archbishop Banda encouraged
The Archbishop’s message underscored the critical role of diaconate in bringing hope and healing to communities through dedicated service and unwavering faith.
