Fr. Christopher Sawila
The Catholic Women’s League (CWL) in the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, joined the rest of Zambia in celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of service under the theme, “Celebrating 60 Years of Charity, Work, and Loyalty: Growth in Faith.”
The celebration began with a march-past from Solwezi City Mall to St. Daniel’s Cathedral, with the women accompanied by priests and lay faithful.
The Eucharistic Mass was held at St. Daniel’s Cathedral, with the main celebrant being the Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi, Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Albert Sakala.
In his homily, Fr. Sakala commended the CWL for six decades of dedication, particularly in charitable works within parish communities. He urged members to reflect on their journey, celebrating achievements while identifying areas for improvement.
“This jubilee is a time for reflection, reconciliation, and forgiveness,” he said. “Plan well for the future and remain steadfast in your mission as a lay group.”
On behalf of Rt. Rev. Bishop Charles J.S. Kasonde, Fr. Sakala congratulated the CWL on their Diamond Jubilee, commended their unwavering commitment to charity, faith, and loyalty, and prayed for God’s blessings upon their families and mission.
The Catholic Women’s League National Chairperson, Ms. Ireen Mileji, expressed gratitude to the priests for their spiritual and moral support. She encouraged CWL members to persevere in their mission of charity and faith, advising them not to be discouraged by criticism.
“Sometimes people give you names because of the work you do in the Church,” she said. “Be leaders who don’t give up.”
The celebration was a momentous occasion for the CWL, reaffirming their dedication to serving God and the Church as they look forward to the years ahead.
