ZAMBIA: Archbishop of Lusaka Calls for Hope, Generosity During Advent Season

The Archbishop of Lusaka Most Rev. Alick Band, has urged the faithful to embrace hope, generosity, and renewed commitment as Zambia faces challenging times.
In his Advent message issued at the Cathedral of the Child Jesus on the Solemnity of Christ the King in Lusaka, Archbishop Banda called on Zambians to prepare their hearts for the coming of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
He emphasized that Advent is a time of expectation, hope, and renewal, reminding the faithful of God’s unwavering promises.
Quoting the prophet Isaiah, Archbishop Banda said, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them light has shone.” This message of hope, he noted, is especially relevant as many Zambians grapple with the effects of drought, hunger, rising crime, and strained social services.
“In the midst of these struggles, there are those who suffer malice because of their faith convictions or social standing,” said Archbishop Banda. “Yet, it is precisely in such moments of difficulty that God’s promises shine brightest.”
He urged Christians to remain steadfast, confident in God’s providence, and to be instruments of hope in their communities.
Addressing the challenges facing the nation, Archbishop Banda called for practical acts of generosity and solidarity.
“Advent teaches us that in waiting, God is working,” he said. “We may feel the weight of scarcity, but God will provide. Let us lift up our eyes to the horizon where the dawn is breaking.”
As the country prepares for Christmas, Archbishop Banda reminded the faithful that the Advent season is an opportunity for spiritual renewal and practical action.
