ZAMBIA: Solwezi Diocese Records Growth of Lay Associations

A total of 85 members, including 77 women and 8 men, were officially welcomed into the Nazareth and Lodoviko Catholic Lay Organizations on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Mt. Carmel Parish, Kabompo district of Solwezi Diocese in Zambia.
The welcoming marked the conclusion of a three-day annual retreat that brought together members from Kabompo and Zambezi Deaneries.
The main celebrant Fr. Daniel Maung’ani, Parish Priest of Mt. Carmel, led the Mass attended by Christians from both deaneries and several priests.
In his homily, Fr. Maung’ani urged the newly bloused members to emulate St. Elizabeth by upholding the sanctity of marriage and family life.
He called on Christians facing marital challenges to seek guidance from the Nazareth Catholic Women Lay Association, widely recognized for their expertise in addressing family and marriage issues.
“Challenges are part of our daily bread,” Fr. Maung’ani reminded the congregation.
And the newly bloused members publicly pledged their commitment to their new roles.
Dressed in their symbolic red and white attire, they were celebrated with dances and songs of praise from the congregation.
This event follows a similar celebration last month when 66 women were commissioned into the Catholic Women’s League at Mt. Carmel Parish.
Such ceremonies underscore the growth of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Solwezi as lay organizations and parishes continue to flourish.
