ZAMBIA: Fire Guts the Parish House in Zambia

A massive fire has destroyed a parish house in Zambia’s Makeni Bonaventure area at St. Joseph Mukasa Parish, causing extensive damage to the priests’ residence and personal belongings.
The house is home to Parish Priest Fr. Fidelis Washeni and his assistant, Fr. Saviour Mutinta, both who are not harmed.
According to Chilanga Dean, Fr. Titus Malama, the fire which erupted between 17:00 and 18:00 hours on 12th November 2024, remains unexplained.
“By the time the fire started, Fr. Washeni was in the chapel praying the Rosary, and Fr. Mutinta was away. Both vehicles are safe, but the house furniture and the priests’ personal property have been completely destroyed, with only a few items salvaged,” Fr. Malama said.
Fr. Malama emphasized that the cause of the fire is unknown, as there was no power in the building at the time, and no obvious source of ignition.
