SOUTH SUDAN: Radio Maria South Sudan Officially Open With Call from the Cardinal to Consider it a Platform for Deeper Evangelization

Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin has officially openned Radio Maria South Sudan 95.4 FM, with a call to the people of God in South Sudan does not take the new radio as an ordinary Radio Station, but as a profound platform for evangelization and means to nurture communities’ relationship.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, His Eminence Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin Mulla said as Radio Maria begins its mission, he hopes it will serve as a beacon of hope to spread the message of Christ’s love and peace throughout the Archdiocese of Juba, and Nation.

“As we launch Radio Maria, let us remember that it’s not merely another Radio Station, it is a platform for evangelization, a means forester community’s relationship and to source ourselves with spiritual nourishment.”

Their waves will carry the history of the Church, the Catechesis of our faith, and give the encouragement so much needed to navigate the challenges that face our lives here in South Sudan, “Ameyu emphasized.”

Cardinal Ameyu believes that Radio Maria will play a significant role in the community by enriching the religious lives of its listeners and fostering a sense of Unity among faithful.

“By broadcasting Radio programs, Radio Maria can help disseminate the teaching of the Church and promote evangelization efforts particularly in the areas where access to religious contents is low,” Cardinal Ameyu stated.

The Cardinal continued, “Radio Maria will provide a space for prayer, prayer is a dialogue with God, prayer is a reflection, prayer is a sharing in the testimony of God’s own influence in our lives.”

His Eminence Ameyu described Radio Maria as the way to give light to the people of the Archdiocese of Juba and South Sudan.

“The Church is here to teach important message, a message that will come to give us light. We have lived in darkness for long but with Radio Maria, we will live in light. My dear brothers and Sisters, let us volunteer to make this Radio work forever in our Diocese, or in our Nation.”

He urged the management of Radio Maria to utilize in a better way to reach many people in South Sudan at large.

Ameyu calls on Radio Maria to promote quality content that can touch and transform the heart of humanity.

“We must a promote quality, by a quality content, it’s not politics, quality contents means the values must be transmitted in this radio, the values of the Gospel that touch the heart of humanity. In this way, we can ensure that the message of the Gospel can touch many people who have not heard about Christ.”

The Cardinal asked Radio Maria to help the people of God to understand the God’s plan for every Christian, adding that through the media the Church can also expand the strategic pastoral plan in all aspect in their lives.

He called on the people of South Sudan to work together as the Synod of Synodality has underscored togetherness in the mission of the Church.

Cardinal Mulla added, “We must support also the Catholic press, and we must also support the Catholic broadcasting because the strong commitment of the Catholic press and broadcasting is vital to us.”

He believes that with the Radio Maria establishment in the Capital City of South Sudan, its reach will spread to all the dioceses of South Sudan and Sudan.

“We start here, in the Archdiocese of Juba, we start here in the Capital, but it’s supposed to go to all over the dioceses that we have in South Sudan and possibly in the Nuba Mountains. This means of communication is a practical means by which many of our houses and many people will be reached with messages of peace and love.”

Cardinal Stephen appealed to the people of South Sudan to follow the footstep of Elizabeth who received Mary joyfully so that they can journey together to experience the wonders that the Lord was making.

“As we embark on this new journey, let us follow the footstep of Elizabeth who received Mary joyfully. We journey together with Mary to Elizabeth in order to meet together the wanders that God would like us to have through this Radio Maria.

Radio Maria is a civil association within the Catholic Church that aims to spread the Gospel through its radio stations. It began as a parish radio in Arcellasco de Erba in 1983 and became independent from the parish in 1987.
