MALAWI: Prelate Urges Love for Praying the Rosary

The Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Zomba, Rt. Rev. Alfred Mateyo Chaima, has urged Catholics in Malawi to love praying the Rosary, arguing that Mother Mary intercedes for humankind.

Speaking after blessing a newly erected grotto at Our Lady of Fatima Pirimiti Parish in the diocese last week, Bishop Chaima said that according to the tradition of the Church, the Blessed Virgin Mary intercedes for people through the prayer of the Holy Rosary.

“Mary has always been loved and remains very close to us as she is our mother and continues to intercede for us even in our time,” said Bishop.

He then urged Christians in the country to continue devoting their lives and offer some prayers through the Blessed Virgin Mary, as she is the mother given to Christians by Jesus Christ himself while dying on the cross.

Bishop Chaima further applauded the Catholic Women Association (CWA) of the parish for financing the project of building a grotto at a cost of US$3,000, saying the development demonstrates the fruits of self-reliance in the church.

Construction of the grotto at Pirimiti Parish started in December 2023, with CWA challenging to mobilize resources towards completion of the project.
