On Sunday, October 19, His Lordship Bishop John Ryan of the Catholic Diocese of Mzuzu conferred the sacrament of Confirmation to 31 students at Marymount Secondary School in Mzuzu.

During this joyous celebration, Bishop Ryan delivered a heartfelt homily, urging the newly confirmed students to be rooted in the spirit of the living God.

“By receiving this holy sacrament, you have renewed your life. Go forth and change the world. Proclaim the good news of the Lord,” Bishop Ryan emphasized.

He acknowledged the numerous challenges the world is currently experiencing including wars, corruption, effects of climate change, and false politics, and encouraged the students to become instruments of change amidst these challenges.

“You now possess the Holy Spirit’s gifts. Use them to transform the world,” Bishop Ryan said.

The Bishop also congratulated the school management on achieving better results in the 2024 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exams.

The School Manager Linly Chavura expressed her expectations, saying, “Now that these students have received the Holy Spirit’s gifts, I anticipate a change in behavior and a positive influence on their peers.”

Speaking on behalf of the confirmed students, Ms. Favour Mpingasa, underscored that the Sacrament of Confirmation will transform her life.

“I was a troublesome girl, but this sacrament will help me change my behavior and inspire my friends at Marymount,” Favour said.

Confirmation is a sacred sacrament where Catholics receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit, empowering them to live their faith fully and witness Christ in every aspect.
