The Catholic Diocese of Solwezi in Zambia has celebrated the 10th anniversary and Open Day of Radio Kabangabanga on October 12, 2024, with a Eucharistic Mass presided over by Rt. Rev. Bishop Charles Sampa Kasonde.

The event, held at St. Daniel Cathedral Parish, was attended by a diverse audience, including priests, religious sisters, government officials, and parishioners.

In his homily, Bishop Kasonde emphasized the importance of the radio station as a tool for evangelization and a voice for marginalized communities in remote areas like Kakoma and Kashinakaji.

“Indeed, I want to say congratulations to the Catholic Diocese, to you all the Catholic Christians our brothers and sisters in the North Western Province and people of goodwill who have been using the radio station,” said Bishop Kasonde.

Bishop Kasonde who is the current chairman for the Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), has urged the government to extend Radio Kabangabanga’s broadcasting reach across North-Western Province and adjust its frequency to make it more accessible, especially for taxi drivers.

The Solwezi Central Constituency Member of Parliament, Stanford Mulusa, who graced the occasion as the guest of honour praised the station as the most popular in the province and diocese, expressing gratitude to Bishop Kasonde for its establishment.

He also thanked Station Manager Fr. Sawila and the staff for their hard work and partnership with various institutions.

The Radio Station has collaborated with BBC Media Action over the years through programs like TWIISAMBE and Citizen Voice, which has made it a favourite in the region.

Certificates of recognition were awarded to key partners, including Kansanshi Mine Plc and Solwezi Municipal Council.

Entertainment at the Open Day included performances by local artists and comedians, making the event lively and memorable.

Radio Kabangabanga’s 10th Anniversary marks a significant milestone as it continues to be a beacon of hope for the people of North-Western Province.
