ZAMBIA: Catholic Women in Zambia Raise Over $ 185,000 as Seminary Fund

A total of four million, eight hundred and eighteen thousand, two hundred and sixty Zambian Kwacha (K4,818,260) which is equivalent to USD 185,317.69, has been raised and officially presented to Ndola Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri as the 2024 Seminarians Fund.

The funds were raised and presented by the Catholic Women Organization of the Ndola Archdiocese after a Thanksgiving Mass held at Independence Stadium in Kalulushi.

The ceremony was attended by numerous priests, religious sisters, and lay faithful.

Ndola Archbishop Benjamin Phiri praised the women for their significant contribution to the formation of priests and works of evangelization.

“The local Church is proud of the Catholic women who have continued to support our evangelization efforts through financial contributions,” Archbishop Phiri said in his homily.

He added, “We pray for you that God may look kindly on you, bless you, and grant you the graces you need most to be more pleasing to Him. May God guard and protect you.”

Meanwhile, speaking to Radio Ichengelo News, some Catholic women reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Church in raising funds for the education of seminarians.

In Lusaka Archdiocese, the Local Ordinary of the same Metropolitan See, Archbishop  Alick Banda also expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering generosity of the Catholic Women’s Organization towards the Church’s mission.

The Archbishop made these remarks during a special Mass at St. Paul’s Parish in Chongwe District, where the Catholic Women’s Organization of the Archdiocese of Lusaka presented a cheque worth five million, one hundred thousand Kwacha (K5.1 million) equivalent to USD 196,887 to support the education of seminarians in the Archdiocese of Lusaka.

Archbishop Banda praised the contribution as a powerful demonstration of the women’s faith and commitment to the spiritual growth of the Archdiocese.

He noted that their generosity is an inspiration for all Catholics, highlighting the strength of collective giving.

The Seminarian Fund supports the education and formation of future priests, covering essential needs such as tuition fees, accommodation, and other needs pertinent to their formation as they prepare for priesthood.
