UGANDA: Religious Women Asked to Practice What They Profess

The congregation of the Little Sisters of the Representation of Mary in the Temple founded in Butembo-Beni Diocese, on 05th October 2024, celebrated their silver jubilee serving in the Diocese of Kasese with a call on the Religious women to put the evangelical counsels their profess into practice.

On the same day Rev Sr. Jane Marie Wazabalere a member of the congregation also celebrated her silver Jubilee. She co-celebrated it alongside Sr. Juliet Marie Muhindo and Sr. Margaret Marie Biira who during their perpetual vows, were presented at altar at Bukangara Parish church by their Mother General, Rev. Sr. Harriet Marie Kasai.

The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rt. Rev Francis Aquirinus Kibira, the Ordinary of the Diocese of Kasese. In his speech, the Bishop encouraged Christians to have the statue of Mother Mary in their Homes, recite the Rosary, before announcing plans for a beautiful Grotto of Mother Mary at the New Cathedral under construction and Perpetual Adoration chapel at St. John Paul II memorial ground at his residence near the Kasese Cathedral.

At domestic level, Bishop Kibira said, we all need to appreciate that a family is the basic unit in society, therefore he strongly condemned the growing habit of suicide in many families whose fragilities are accelerated by domestic violence.

Bishop Kibira who asked Christiansto seek for the intercession of Mother Mary, said he had been on pressure about the new Cathedral construction and a Perpetual Adoration Chapel construction projects at St John Paul II memorial grounds before flying to Ireland but that God was by his side over the projects.

The Bishop later directed all Catholic founded schools in the Diocese to start the legion of Mary movements and promote the values and norms of the church.

On behalf of the celebrants, Sr. Margaret thanked God for his will for their service, and individual support from Christians that enable them respond to their Spiritual demands with minimum challenges.

In his Homily, the Diocesan Vicar General Msgr. Landaus Bwambale commended Rev. Sr. Wanzabere and sisters for walking her religious vows to serve Christ in their entire life.

Msgr. Landus commended Bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Kasese Rt. Rev. Egidio Nkaijanabwo for having requested the superior of the congregation from the diocese of Butembo-Beni in DR Congo to render service in the Kasese Diocese

He highlighted among many service render in the 25 years in Kasese including selfless deduction and zeal in the pastoral, health and education sector of the diocese of Kasese.

The diocese vocation director, Rev. Fr. Joseph Tumusiime asked lay faithful to always remember to pray for those that have decided themselves to serve God as religious, saying religious life calls for a constant renewal of One’s life based on the evangelical councils and has to always look onto the cross of Jesus Christ.

He added that it also calls for total surrender of one’s life, liberty and will to the will of God. This is not an easy task one needs the grace of God and also being guided by the Holy Spirit.
