The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Health Department has commenced the formulation of its strategic plan for 2025-2026.

The process began with a three-day workshop for Catholic hospital administrators in Lusaka at Kapingilila Guest House.

During the workshop, the Mission and Vision statements including the core values of the department were defined, and resource mobilization was discussed with the participants.

Speaking at the close of the workshop, Fr. Jonas Phiri, the ZCCB National Liturgical and Biblical Coordinator emphasized the importance of equipping religious men and women running Catholic health facilities with the necessary skills.

Fr. Phiri noted that often, people are placed in positions without the proper qualifications, hence the need for training and staff development, highlighting the need for upgrading skills and improving the way things have been done in the past because this is the 21st century which demands professionalism.

He stressed that workshops like this are crucial because they provide valuable insights to participants, which in turn help improve service delivery in the various health facilities.

In a vote of thanks, the participants expressed their gratitude to ZCCB for organizing the workshop, acknowledging that their skills and qualifications need constant upgrading.

They described the workshop as eye-opening and emphasized the importance of maintaining high standards and quality in the provision of healthcare services, as the Catholic Church is known for this.

They further requested that the department and the Church at large continue providing opportunities for them to acquire new and upgraded skills from time to time.
