By Sandra Kunda
The Catholic Diocese of Monze Bishop, Rt. Rev. Raphael Mweempwa has expressed gratitude to the Order of Society of Jesus (SJ), founders of St. Canisius Secondary School, for their unwavering commitment, wisdom, and dedication, which have enabled the school to contribute significantly to the welfare of the nation and beyond.
Speaking during St. Canisius Secondary School’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Bishop Mweempwa, who is also an alumnus of the same school, noted that from its inception, the Jesuits had a vision to provide quality education rooted in Gospel values. This vision has shaped many individuals who have passed through the school since its founding in 1949.
Bishop Mweempwa also acknowledged the immeasurable contributions of the government and others who have shown care and concern for the school over the past 75 years. He highlighted the strong partnership between the Church and the government in the education sector, describing it as having a rich history rooted in a shared commitment to the holistic development of young people.
The Bishop stated that this collaboration has allowed institutions like St. Canisius School to thrive, producing generations of students who have gone on to contribute meaningfully to society.
Bishop Mweempwa encouraged the government to continue and enhance its support for educational institutions, ensuring that the Church can fulfill its mission of educating and forming young people for the benefit of not only the schools but also the entire nation.
