UGANDA: Be Strategic, Uganda Cleric Urges Youth Ahead of 2026 General Elections

The Kasese Diocesan Youth chaplain Rev. Fr. Joseph Tumusiime has asked the youth to strategically position themselves against being abused during the 2026 general elections.

He also asked the youth to contest or support their ready colleagues because the success or failure of Uganda is in their hands.

Speaking shortly after facilitating a one-day ‘Go back to school youth conference’ at St. Peter and Paul-Katwe Parish on 14th Sept 2024, Fr. Tumusiime who regretted what he called the commercialized politics in Uganda warned the youth against being as ladders by selfish political leaders who end up engaging them in election violence.

The Nyakahya parish priest who doubles as the Mbarara Ecclesiastical Province Youth chaplain, wondered why some political leaders were not ready and able to empower the youth yet they had the biggest number of voters.

Tumusiime has urged school-going children to focus on their academics and be disciplined as schools open for third term.

He urged learners to prioritize education, which is key to their future, asking them to value the sweat of their parents and guardians who work tirelessly to pay for their education, by being committed and hardworking.

He also asked the youth out of school to get involved in productive activities including farming, bricklaying, and small-scale business for a living.
