The President of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) His Eminence Fridolin Cardinal Ambongo Besengu, OFM Cap visited the Tanzania Episcopal Conference TEC accompanied by SECAM Secretary General Fr Rafael Simbine Junior, from September 9-11 this year.
The visit was as part of the implementation of his duties to continue promoting the Church’s role as an instrument of salvation and building the Church as a Family of God in Africa by fostering communion, collaboration and joint action among all the Episcopal Conferences of Africa and the Islands.
During his visit, he met with the heads of departments and various Directors of TEC led by the Secretary General of TEC Rev. Charles Kitima who briefed him the history of TEC since its inception, its mission and vision.
Each Department had the opportunity to present its performance report on how it fulfills its responsibilities within TEC, dioceses and the universal Church.
After receiving the reports, Cardinal Ambongo expressed his gratitude for the great work which TEC is doing, especially the presence of resources and infrastructure that help the Church of Tanzania to develop through various independent institutions.
“I am amazed by the great work you are doing. I pray that it does not end here in the Church of Tanzania but that you be an example in the Church of Africa, Madagascar and the whole world.
I am pleased with the presence of various institutions that liberate man spiritually and physically, especially Universities, Mkombozi Bank, hotel, farms, the way you help the community in Health, disaster events, evangelizing through the media etc. Indeed, you are a role model, congratulations.
Let’s continue to evangelize independently because where we are going there will be no aid to give in Europe so we have to manage ourselves to continue the work of evangelization,” emphasized Cardinal Ambongo who is also the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kinshasa DRC Congo.
TEC General Secretary Father Charles Kitima thanked Cardinal Ambongo and his assistants from SECAM for visiting TEC saying it is a partnership that shows we walk together as a Synod Church.
Cardinal Ambongo also had a meeting with all Catholic bishops in Tanzania at AMECEA Conference hall.
SECAM is aiming at preserving, fostering and promoting communion, joint action and collaboration among all the Episcopal Conferences of the entire Africa and Madagascar.
