The Association of Women Religious in Malawi teams received praise from Fr. Anthony Makunde the Secretary General of AMECEA, for the excellent organization of the liturgies and the smooth of the congregations during the 19th plenary assembly and the golden jubilee of the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa which took place in Malawi, August 2024.
“As Regional Secretariats (ACWECA for Women Religious and AMECEA for the Episcopal Conferences), we must encourage such experiences of journeying together as witnessed in Malawi. This must be maintained and expanded in each of our member countries,” said Fr Makunde.
On her part, the Secretary General of ACWECA Sister Bridgita Samba also expressed gratitude for the role played by AMECEA in support of the Women Religious’ plenary.
“To be honest with you, I am humbled by what Father has just said. I would like to thank all of you for the support given to us. If it weren’t for your support in one way or another, the plenary would not have gone as planned. The support, encouragement, and physical presence provided us with individuals to work with on the ground,” she stated.
“And since this is where we belong, I believe that the similarity of the experiences that we are going through is a call for us the two associations to solidify not only our relationship but also our goals and dreams for the Church in the region of AMECEA. Let us commit ourselves to become God’s tools and the helping hand for our brothers, sisters and fellow Christians who are searching for us and looking up to us as evangelists,” continued Sr Bridgita.
