As part of the AMECEA regional Golden Jubilee celebrations for Small Christian communities, leaders of Small Christian Communities (SCCs) have planted trees at the Cathedral church in commemoration of the event.

Speaking to AMECEA’s news correspondent in an interview shortly after the function that started with Holy Mass that was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joseph Kirungi, the Cathedral Rector, Fr. Anyasio Mbusa the assistant diocesan Pastoral coordinator, asked the SCC leaders to popularize the importance of praying together in a community, adding that the trees planted were in response to Pope’s Message for Laudato SI leaders.

Fr. Mbusa who doubles as the Diocesan Coordinator for Caritas-Kasese urged members of Small Christian Communities in the Catholic Church to engage in savings and credit groups for improved livelihood at household levels.

According to him, Caritas is planning to empower the people financially through organized Christian communities with running projects.

He commended believers in their respective communities for supporting church activities and advised them to form saving groups and invest in domestic and poultry projects among others.

He encouraged Christians to make use of their Local churches and join SCCs than walking long distances to the Cathedral every morning for sacrifice of mass.

He also revealed that Caritas-Kasese has started a SACCO aimed to give loans to organized groups at low interest rates.

Ms Salome Muhindo, the Catechist for St. Joseph Basecamp Roman Catholic Church, described the establishment of the small Christian communities as a double relief into   pastoral engagements.

Most leaders talked to, said the SCCs were a boost in evangelization and guiding the local people about Salvation.

The one-year long celebrations shall be summed up in Uganda late this year where the Bishops from all member states are expected to attend.
