SOUTH SUDAN: JPC Wau Diocese Hands Over Youth Center to Western Bahr el Ghazal State

Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) in the Catholic Diocese of Wau, with support from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Wau Field Office has officially handed over a newly constructed police station and a multipurpose youth center to the government in Ujiku Payam Located in Deim Zubeir, Raja County.
The Catholic Diocese of Wau Bishop Matthew Ramijio Adam reaffirmed that the presence of law enforcement in the area would help maintain public order.
He encouraged the local youth to make use of the new center to develop their talents and contribute positively to the community.
In her remarks during the handing-over ceremony, the Program Manager of the Justice and Peace Commission (JPC) Sherihan Sedik said, the purpose of the new police station is to enhance security and reduce crime in the area.
Sedik added that the new youth center aims to foster social cohesion and encourage active participation of youth in the peace-building process.
Meanwhile, the Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Wau Field Office Sam Muhamuri emphasized that prosperity in the region hinges on the effective implementation of the law to maintain security and public order.
Sam urged the Director of Police in Western Bahr el Ghazal State to deploy adequate police forces to the area to ensure the safety of the citizens.
State Governor Sarah Cleto Rial expressed her gratitude to all parties involved in the project and called on the residents of Deim Zubeir to take care of the newly established centers.
The new Youth Center and Police Station were constructed as part of the Quick Impact Project, in Ujiku Payam, Deim Zubeir, Raja County of Western Bahr el Ghazal State.
Justice and Peace Commission did not disclose the amount of cost to construct the two buildings.
Justice and Peace Commission under the Catholic Diocese of Wau has been doing significant work for the People of Western Bahr el Ghazal State including conducting workshops on Peace dialogue on human rights among others.
Their projects aim at Educational opportunities and resources to promote a deeper understanding of and commitment to the Church’s social mission among the people we serve.
Collaborative action to assist agencies and organizations to address concrete challenges in the areas of justice and peace and work on the promotion of structures that promote human dignity.
JP coordinates the work of the commission and implements the programs by liaising with the Diocesan Justice and Peace Offices.
It is responsible for implementing national programs and projects geared towards the respect, rights and promotion of the people.
JP office organized trainings, research and advocacy for peace by employing tools and strategies for the implementation of specific programs.
Within the JP office there is a wing for the Government affairs whose role is to act as an eye for the JP Commission and provide advice where necessary through advocacy.
The Justice and Peace Office exist to promote peaceful co-existence, respect for diversity and human rights. The Office is centered on the dignity of the human person and this involves advocating to build a common home for vulnerable and marginalized. It advocates for the rule of law and guidance for peaceful society based on the social teachings of the Catholic Church.
