The Dominican Sisters on 3rd August 2024 celebrated their centenary of service in Zambia at the Dominican Convent School in Ndola, an event that attracted delegates from across the nation and the world, highlighting the wide-reaching impact of the Sisters’ work.

In his homily, Archbishop Benjamin Phiri praised the Dominican Sisters for their remarkable contributions to Zambia over the past 100 years.

Archbishop Phiri said the 100 years is a testament of God’s blessings because God blesses those who dedicate themselves fully to his mission.

He urged them to remain united and continue their hard working while emphasizing the importance of respecting and learning from the elderly members of the community, noting their wisdom and experience.

“As you continue to make achievements and celebrate God’s blessings, it is time to work harder, analyze yourselves and put more effort into what Christ demands,” Archbishop Phiri urged the sisters.

He said at a time one achieves something, that is when everything begins to unravel; therefore, it is imperative to always remain strong and steadfast at this 100 years achievement, stating that now is the time to listen to the word of God and more attentively just as Saint Paul encouraged the Christian community at Ephesus that Christ is all in all.

And addressing not only the Religious, but Archbishop Phiri also called on everyone to be humble, pure, obedient and learn from others.

“I wish upon all of us humility; even when your status in society goes up, you still remain a human being, and to dust you shall return,” Archbishop Phiri exclaimed.

The celebration was presided by Archbishop Benjamin Phiri, and was concelebrated by Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde, Bishop of Solwezi Diocese, and Rt. Rev. Patrick Chisanga, Bishop of Mansa Diocese.

During the celebration, the guest of honour, Copperbelt Provincial Minister Elisha Matambo, generously donated K20, 000 towards the construction of a new boys’ secondary school. Additionally, German partners presented a cheque for 35,000 Euros to support the project.
