UGANDA: People in Camps Need Support and Resettlement Says, Prelate

Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kasese, Rt. Rev. Francis Aquirinus Kibira Kambale, has asked the government of Uganda to speed up the resettlement process of the flood and mudslide victims, and to find a permanent solution to the flooding rivers in the district.

He said Kasese District has continuously experienced challenges with floods and mudslide because of environment degradation and climate changes forcing families in camps.

While on food relief delivery activity on 28th June 2024, Bishop Kibira was touched as he reached one of the Internally Displaced Persons camps at Kyalhumba Parish in Kyalhumba Town Council, Kasese District, where he found out that over 206 families are only sharing less than fifty saucepans to prepare meals.

It was noted that the government has delayed to delivery their relief and condolences following several promised made through their area Member of Parliament, later the people in the camp commended the nongovernment and faith-based organization for the support.

In his address, Bishop Kibira extended his condolences to the grieved families and sympathized with individuals staying in different camps across the district, calling for togetherness, hardworking, discipline and love for one another as government ponders on the possibility of reallocating them permanently.

The prelate called for collaborated efforts aimed at supporting Education of learners staying in the internally displaced people’s camps, but also protects them against dangers since they are vulnerable.

The items distributed, included 1,500kg of cassava flour, 500kg of Maize flour and 1,500kg beans.
